Estudiantes de ERASMUS

El objetivo del Programa Erasmus es mejorar la calidad y fortalecer la dimensión europea de la enseñanza superior a través del fomento de la cooperación entre universidades y estimulando movilidad académica de estudiantes y profesores universitarios en la Unión Europea.Aunque su nombre se lo debe al filósofo humanista Erasmo de Rotterdam ( wikipedia ), ERASMUS es una abreviatura en inglés de Plan de Acción de la Comunidad Europea para la Movilidad de Estudiantes Universitarios ( European Community Action Scheme for the Mobility of University Students ).

Para poder inscribirse en el programa Erasmus, el único requisito que se ha de cumplir es ser un estudiante europeo y estar cursando una carrera universitaria de grado medio o superior, habiendo completado el primer año. La estancia de los estudiantes en otra universidad europea, puede prolongarse entre tres meses y un año. Al regresar a su universidad, este período será reconocido y computado.

Un punto a favor de este plan radica en el hecho de que los estudiantes puedan solicitar una beca Erasmus por el coste de vivir en el extranjero. No hay que olvidar que el cursar los estudios en otro país europeo, supone unos gastos de desplazamiento, alquiler y manutención que el estudiante ha de afrontar. Además, para facilitar su integración, el estudiante de Erasmus puede recibir clases de apoyo en el idioma del país escogido.

Habitualmente se tiene una visión negativa del estudiante de Erasmus como una persona que únicamente busca la diversión sin medida lejos de casa. El estudiante de Erasmus es consciente que es una oportunidad única para adquirir nuevos conocimientos y paralelamente, conocer nuevos lugares y personas. La responsabilidad del estudiante aumenta radicalmente de manera que de sus acciones dependerán sus resultados, con la diferencia que dispone de plena libertad. No son aislados los casos de estudiantes que no han sabido aprovecha el tiempo que el programa Erasmus les ofrece, pero esto no se ha de convertir en algo achacable a todos los estudiantes.

En la actualidad, más de dos mil centros de enseñanza superior participan en el programa Erasmus, repartidos en un total de 31 países. Desde su creación en 1987, más de un millón de estudiantes se han acogido al programa Erasmus.
